A. Well, it DID strengthen the containment of the Soviet Union. Had we not contained it, it would have gotten everything except the U.S. Germany became a large and very important part of NATO, especially after the Berlin airlift that the Iron Curtain The U. S. actually increased out expenditures because we had to arm most of our Allies, or at least subsidize their arming. NATO, by its very purpose showed Europe that the US wouldn't abandon them. "An attack upon one member is the same as an attack upon ALL members". Since we had to go to the defense of other countries, a definite blow against isolationism was made. Therefore: the answer is C, it didn't reduce our defense expenditures.
