Q. How has the role of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) changed since the end of the cold war?

A. Now that the threat of communist invasion is no longer present I think NATO is used more as a defense pact against extremists, etc. and more modern day threats among all the nations. It's future is shaky however.

Q. 41.American membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization did all of the following for the country except a)strengthen the containment of the Soviet Union b)help reintegrate Germany into the European family c)reduce our defense expenditures, since we would get help from other countries d)reassure Europeans that the U.S. would not abandon them e)strike a major blow to American isolationists
Asked by Sarah C - Sun Apr 18 11:50:37 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, it DID strengthen the containment of the Soviet Union. Had we not contained it, it would have gotten everything except the U.S. Germany became a large and very important part of NATO, especially after the Berlin airlift that the Iron Curtain The U. S. actually increased out expenditures because we had to arm most of our Allies, or at least subsidize their arming. NATO, by its very purpose showed Europe that the US wouldn't abandon them. "An attack upon one member is the same as an attack upon ALL members". Since we had to go to the defense of other countries, a definite blow against isolationism was made. Therefore: the answer is C, it didn't reduce our defense expenditures.

A. There was no problem. The US was a founding member of the NATO alliance. And given that it was created to oppose Soviet expansion, which most Americans felt was necessary, there was no real opposition to it.

A. It depends. To Americans, it means the relationship between Europe, usually France, and America. Increasingly, to Europeans, it means the European Union. So, NATO could be considered the Atlantic Alliance, I suppose.

Is the USA mentioned in the End Times as the King of the North?
Q. Part of Daniel chapter 11 mentions the rise of the Anti-christ. Dan 11:40 40"At the end time the king of the South will collide with him, and the king of the North will storm against him with chariots, with horsemen and with many ships; and he will enter countries, overflow them and pass through. This passage clearly talks about 3 factions going to war. South againts the Anti-christ first, and later also the North. The South isn't too much of a big deal, but the north has many ships and vehicles who fights the Anti-christ. Clearly the North is world power enough to stand up against the kingdom of the Anti-christ. The prerequisites of the North is: it has to have a large powerful navy. The US has the worlds largest navy. Also the… [cont.]

Q. Why did NATO help the British Crown take the Falkland Islands? NATO means (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) so why did the US allow NATO to take the Falkland Islands which is the Americas?! Isn't this a violation of US Foreign Policy. Didn't the USA allow a Eurpean Power to violate the Monroe Doctrine?
Asked by Kaydell - Tue Sep 1 23:03:51 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. THe MOnroe Doctrine is not a law. As such, it has no enforceability. Major General, US Air Force, David Forgan planned and supported the BRitish Air Efforts. He coordinated supplies and readiness. We were not physically involved, but his direction and guidance played a part in the war. Britain is one of the founding partners of NATO. This is a great example of entangled foreign alliances that Washington warned us of.

Should the NATO war machine be dismantled?
Q. Does NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) war machine need to be dismantled. It was set up after WWII to fight America's wars and is certainly more a warmaker rather than a "peacemaker". Its existence will be seen to be a serious threat to world peace and, eventually, unless abolished, will trigger World War III. These so-called military "treaties" are just like gangs and like all gangs they increase rather than reduce the risk of conflict. Do you agree with this proposition?

A. Nope. NATO is good. You can get rid of the UN though. They are useless.
